Words from the South
For those who were unable to attend, the first stated communication in December held quite a discussion pertaining to one very specific question we are all asked after we first knocked on the west gate; “what come you here to do?”. We all know what the ritual says, and ultimately isn’t it our true aim as we proceed through the degrees? We as Masons have one common focus, again, which is laid out for us in the ritual of the first degree, but we come from many different places. Our back stories prior to Masonry run the gamut of every slice of life and paths in some cases are so extreme that it becomes fascinating if not miraculous that it they all lead back to the west gate of Freemasonry. Some of our paths included flying model airplanes, college fraternities, touring rock bands, an overall general desire to make oneself better. We have shared our stories and are curious to know what your path is.
So I will ask you who are reading this; what come you here to do? Why are you here at the lodge as a Brother? What brought you here? Why Freemasonry? Throughout the course of the year, I will be asking various brethren to briefly share their answer to this question within the confines of the newsletter. Be ready!
